Burjeel Specialty Hospital launches first PET-CT service in Sharjah
Sharjah: Burjeel Specialty Hospital, a subsidiary of Burjeel Holdings, has launched the first PET-CT service in Sharjah to provide patients with the latest cancer diagnosis and treatment faster. The service, which falls under the Nuclear Medicine Department, was officially inaugurated in the presence of Sheikh Faisal Khalid Sultan Al Qasimi. Dr. Shamsheer Vayalil, Chairman and CEO of Burjeel Holdings, was also present at the event.The operation is fully integrated with the group’s cancer treatment network, Burjeel Cancer Institute (BCI). BCI, the UAE’s fastest growing cancer treatment network, will provide a single point of access for diagnosis, treatment planning, treatment phases and follow-up care.Burjeel Holdings Chairman and CEO Dr.Shamsheer Vayalil said the new system aims to make complex treatments more accessible and accessible to patients.The main advantage of this is that patients will be able to access advanced molecular imaging services without having to travel to another emirate. While the fast scanning reduces the examination time, the integrated care of the expert team will ensure timely and accurate treatment.The hospital’s nuclear medicine department is characterized by the GE Discovery IQ PET-CT system, which combines PET detector technology and CT imaging. In addition to cancer diagnosis and staging, this technology can also assess response to treatment and identify the risk of disease recurrence. The high-sensitivity detector technology allows patients to complete scans quickly with minimal radiation exposure. Q-Clear reconstruction technology further improves image quality and accuracy. The center operates in full compliance with Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) standards and international radiation safety regulations.
In addition to diagnosis, radionuclide therapies will also be available in Sharjah in collaboration with the Nuclear Medicine team at Burjeel Cancer Institute in Abu Dhabi.
