- Prior permission required after subdividing and renting out accommodation
Dubai A law requiring prior permission to subdivide and rent out accommodation has come into force in Dubai. It was announced that the notification was issued 180 days ago. This will have a major impact on bachelor accommodations where more than one person lives in a room. Those who violate the law can be fined up to five hundred thousand dirhams. No individual or company can allow shared accommodation without a permit. Only property owners and licensed entities can rent out approved units. Residents and other parties are not allowed to sublet their accommodation or any part of it.
Owners can rent approved properties directly to residents. Or they can appoint licensed companies to manage and lease them. The license can be rented and divided. Fines range from 500 dirhams to 500,000 dirhams. If the same offence is repeated within a year, the fine will be doubled. The maximum fine is 1 million dirhams.
