- *Dr. Shamsheer to join World Economic Forum’s Digital Healthcare Transformation Initiative Board*
_The Forum has nominated Dr. Shamsheer to a panel of ministers and global CEOs_
Abu Dhabi: Dr. Shamsheer Vayalil, founder, chairman and CEO of Burjeel Holdings, has been appointed to the Executive Board of the World Economic Forum’s Digital Healthcare Transformation Initiative. He was nominated to the prestigious global panel in recognition of his contributions and experience in the healthcare sector in the Middle East.
The Initiative, led by the Forum’s Center for Health and Healthcare, is a global public-private partnership to develop digital health, health data, artificial intelligence and new care models based on artificial intelligence. The board’s main objective is to responsibly deploy digital technology across the healthcare sector, beyond individual trials.
The committee is comprised of CEOs, ministers and heads of international organizations. Other prominent members of the board include Gianrico Farrugia, President and CEO of Mayo Clinic, Geoff Marthe, Chairman and CEO of Medtronic, Roy Jacobs, President and CEO of Philips, Fahd bin Abdulrahman Al Jalajal, Minister of Health of Saudi Arabia, Sania Nishtar, CEO of Gavi, and Suneetha Reddy, Managing Director of Apollo Hospitals.
Dr. Shamsheer, a native of Kozhikode, has a diverse background as a doctor, entrepreneur, investor and philanthropist. Under his leadership, Burjeel Holdings has achieved great achievements in integrated health networks, complex care systems, clinical technologies and AI integration.
Dr. Shamsheer believes that for healthcare to be transformed, clinical expertise, technology and data must be properly integrated. Shamsheer Vayalil said. He said that only when digital health and AI are aligned with human goals can major changes occur, and he is happy to be working with global leaders to advance patient-centered care models.
Dr. Shyam Bishen, Head of the World Economic Forum Center for Health and Healthcare and a member of the Executive Committee, welcomed the appointment. Dr. Shamsheer’s wealth of experience in the health sector and his expertise in implementing technology make him the best fit for this mission, and his presence will be a great strength in developing sustainable digital health systems.
More than 200 organizations have already participated in the Digital Healthcare Transformation Initiative, which was launched in 2024. The project focuses on data collaboration, virtual health, and AI controls. As part of this global initiative, the UAE is focusing on artificial intelligence-based health systems and international cooperation.
